Hawaiian Elopement and Trash the Dress
We love this Hawaiian elopement!
Here’s a little behind the story of this gorgeous couple:
It was a tale of love at first sight for Giada and Matteo, who met as teenagers. He was one of the lifeguards at Giada’s pool. They describe themselves as total opposites. Giada’s impulsive, talkative, and fiery. Whereas, Matteo’s calm, quiet, and always tries to find a compromise.
Despite their differences, they’re the perfect balance for each other. Even their names are just right together. When you take “ma” from Matteo and “Gia” from Giada, they become MaGia, the Italian word for magic.
They adore doing everything together, but traveling is their most beloved passion, and Giada’s a travel agent.
Whenever MaGia pictured their wedding, it was always just the two of them somewhere in paradise- hence, this gorgeous Hawaiian elopement.
They decided to take a long summer holiday, flying first from their home in Italy to Canada where they drove to several destinations.
Then, they got married and saw the sights of Maui, and ended their honeymoon in Oahu.
How their dream wedding day went:
Matteo and Giada planned the main elements of their special day together, which included amazing vows (which you can hear in the wedding film here: https://stephanboekerfilms.com/italian-wedding-maui/) written in handmade vow books, a sand ceremony, custom flip flops, and a Just Maui’d sign.
They also both planned special surprises. Matteo ordered a personalized dress hanger for his bride and made a slideshow of photos for Giada to watch before the ceremony. Since she’s an avid horseback rider, his wedding gift was a necklace with horseshoe pendant.
Giada asked to have balloons delivered to the beach for their sunset pictures because they’re a significant symbol their relationship. As a child, Matteo invented a phrase to describe his feelings towards his parents – “oltre il cielo dei palloncini” in Italian, which roughly translates to “above the balloons sky.”
The phrase has now come to have many meanings (respect, love, passion, etc.) for Giada and Matteo. They’ve even had these words tattooed on the same spot on their right forearms.
Matteo and Giada heading into the sea was the perfect way to end their photo shoot. It was both a fun way to end their gorgeous day and a nod to how they first met.
